The MEXA CSR Fund Ltd was set up in 2010.The aim of setting up the MEXA CSR Fund was to create a Special Purpose Vehicle regrouping MEXA members as contributors.
The guiding principle was that: through the CSR Projects, the Export Sector would give back to the community.
Our mandate was to enhance the lives of many people, especially children and our seniors. After 3 years, I must say that the Export Sector through the MEXA CSR Fund has had the opportunity to bring about some light to the lives of many people.
This year the Export Sector, through the MEXA CSR Fund Ltd has contributed to 5 CSR Projects and to the Flash Flood victims.
A cheque Remitting Ceremony was organised at Le Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel, Caudan on Wednesday 17th July 2013 at 10am to hand over the cheques to the respective NGOs.
The MEXA CSR Fund Ltd has thus proudly donated Rs 1, 8 M to the 6 CSR Projects.
The projects are as follows:
1.Association Pour L’Education des Enfants Defavorisés
The Setting up of Remedial Classes for 30 children in STD 3-6 coming from very poor background and who are not in the mainstream. (Rs 400,000)
2.Caritas – Ile Maurice Commission Solidarité et Justice
Enhancement of Vulnerable people through Community Development Activities in Barkly. (Rs 500,000)
3.Fondation Cours Jeanne D’Arc
Sponsor the education of 2 girls aged 14 who suffer from Trisomy. (Rs 91,000)
4.Mauritius Marine Conservation Society
Towards a Management Plan for a sustainable whale and dolphin watching industry in Mauritius. (Rs 100,000)
5.Association Pere Laval des Sans Abris
To add a level on the existing building in Roche Bois, to be used as exercise room by 16 ex-detainees who live there. (Rs 248,774)
6 Flash Flood Contribution:
The MEXA CSR Fund Ltd also made a special contribution of Rs 500,000 to Caritas – Ile Maurice who has taken under its aegis the victims of the recent Flash Floods among which 10 families who have incurred “total losses” on the 30th March 2013.
The MEXA CSR Fund Ltd is contributing to help them pay the initial deposit at the NHDC in order to obtain an apartment.
On that occasion, the Chairman of MEXA, Mr Hemraj Ramnial pointed out that “at MEXA, we would like to congratulate the Government of Mauritius for the laudable initiative of the Government to introduce CSR in 2009. Companies therefore had the legal obligation to contribute 2% of company profit towards CSR activities in the specific areas of intervention such as Socio-economic development, health, environment, catastrophic Interventions and hardship support.”
