Local Transport
Mauritius is serviced by a well developed road network with a dual carriageway connecting the north of the country via Port Louis (the Capital City) to the south and the international airport.

Bus Service

There is frequent bus service throughout the island as most Mauritians commute on the 2,800 buses belonging to the state-owned transport company, private companies and co-operative societies. Bus service is ensured between 5 am and 7 pm in most areas of the island.

Taxi Service

Taxis are readily available at designated areas in all major cities and villages, bearing yellow plates with drivers often fluent in several languages.

  • From Airport to the South: USD 35
  • From Airport to the East: USD 60
  • From Airport to the West: USD 57
Car Rental

Visitors wishing to rent a car can do so through internationally known companies such as Hertz, Avis, Sixt, Car Hire Mauritius, Europcar, National Car Rental, Kevtrav Ltd and Budget Rent A Car.
